Theologian in Residence Program 2010

Trinity Lutheran Church will participate in the theologian in Residence program in 2010.  Many of you will remember our participation with Dr. David Deane in 2008 exploring the Christian response to 9/11.  We will host Steve Mueller; Ph.D. Steve is a popular speaker and writer, editor and teacher about the bible and biblical spirituality.  His latest book The Seekers guide to Jesus in the gospels is dedicated to the principle that asking questions is not only all right, but essential in our faith.  The past 15 years he taught at the Denver Catholic Biblical School.

                 Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Time:  7pm  “What was Jesus up to and Why did it get him Killed?”

A light supper will be served at 6 pm catered by Tom Wilburton. There will be a free will offering to cover the costs.

Dear Friends,
In my meetings with Pastors and lay people in N. Colorado I have heard several comments that people would like to help Lutheran Campus Ministry by donating food for our Sunday night dinners.  We have worship at 5:15 p.m. and then we host a dinner at 6:15.  Typically we have 30 people for dinner on Sundays.
In addition, we have Bible Study on Thursday evenings at 6:00.  We start with dinner on Thursdays and then have a bible study until 7:30 or so.  If anyone would like to help with the meal on Thursdays they are more than welcome to do so.
Helpers could bring food on Sundays before 5:15 and then worship with us and then eat with us.  If someone needs to cook during the worship that is okay, but not ideal.  We would certainly welcome the cooks to come into the service as much as possible and would wish for them to come into the sanctuary for communion.  If cooking on Sunday night is not possible, the food could be dropped off during the week and a student or someone else could cook it.
Having a church take one Sunday a month would be wonderful.  For example, Trinity - Fort Collins could take the first Sunday of the month.
Plates, napkins, silverware and cups are all at LCM.  Also cookie sheets, 2 large fry pans, and several large pots for pasta and sauce.  We serve water for the drink so that is not needed.
Typically the dinners are soup, bread and salad or tacos, pasta, bread and salad.  Desserts are very simple like cookies or a cake if someone would like to add that.
The meals at LCM are provided for several reasons.  Eating together provides a great sense of community and it is very important for the students to share both the communion meal and the fellowship meal.  Also, the meals at LCM are for students the most nutritious meals that students eat during the week.  They don't have time for cooking and they grab and go for most of their meals.  Also they do not tend to eat with other people except at LCM.  For example, during finals week one student came and said that they were so grateful for the meal because they had no food and hadn't eaten for over 24 hours.
Please know that only about 5,000 CSU students live in dorms and have a meal plan.  The other 20,000 students live in apartments or houses and they are living on very little money.   Even if LCM students live in Residence Halls they appreciate the home cooking and warm welcome at LCM.
Thanks for helping us to share God's love with young adults.  Your assistance REALLY helps.  This will also give Lutherans in N. Colorado a chance to see LCM and meet students.
A calendar for signing up follows.  If you would like to help, please call or text Pastor Connie on her cell at 970-222-8394 or email her at
